Brian Bird gets his 3rd degree

On May 10, 2014, owner of Champions Creed and head instructor Brian Bird was awarded his 3rd degree on his Black Belt following an evaluation from his instructor Mr. Roy Harris. Brian has trained under Mr. Harris since 2001 and has achieved all his belt rankings from White to Black under him. Through years of dedication and instructing, Brian is now the highest ranked Black Belt under Mr. Harris.

Brian has been training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu since 1995 and is considered to be a Canadian pioneer of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Canada. Brian started running his own Martial Art club in the year 2000; at the time it was called National Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and had only 13 students. At that time we were only offering Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Following this, he opened a different location in 2004 called BDB Martial Arts. BDB Martial Arts expanded in size and scope; adding instruction in wrestling, Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and growing to 100 members. From there we opened Champions Creed in 2012 with 300 members. 2 years later, we now have over 500 members with multiple Black belts, a MMA fight team with over 30 fighters, many amateur competitors, and are continuing to grow our team and family.

Brian has achieved many qualifications that make his school and instruction well known, nationally reputed, and the place to train in Calgary. Here are just a few of his accomplishments:

  • Harris International Certified Associate Level Instructor
  • Owner of Champions Creed Martial Arts with affiliate clubs in Cranbrook and Canmore
  • Has trained World Champion competitors in the Fila Grappling World Championships including 4 time Gold medalist Sheila Bird, Gold medalist John Louro in Gi grappling, and Matt Bagshaw in Combat Grappling.
  • 5 Time Canadian Team Coach for the Fila Grappling World Championships in Switzerland 2008, Florida 2009, Poland 2010, China 2010 and Serbia 2011
  • Coached MMA fighter Nick "The Promise" Ring to the UFC (MMA fighting record 12-2). Brian is the only coach to create a UFC fighter in Calgary.
  • Current professional fight team including Nick Ring, Noah Ali, Andrew Kloot, Jaret Evans, Dusty Kramps, Brandon Ypma, Will Monzon, Sheila Bird, Matt Bagshaw and Trent House with many amateur fighters as well.
