A COACH IN YOUR CORNER LEADS THE FIGHT

Brian Bird has many roles as a coach, from making sure the fighter has his blood work done to problem solving.

A fighter has a coach in their corner for getting them ready for fights, cutting weight, and mentally preparing them for whatever curveball comes their way.

The fight game is part mental and part physical. It can be 40/60 or 60/40, depending on the fighter.

Being a coach in the corner for a fighter will make the difference between winning and losing because the fight game is very mental.

While trainers walk the fighters through every step of the process, they also stand in the corner during the match and yell directions that the fighter needs. In between rounds, Bird makes sure the fighter is relaxed and ready to take on the next round.

On April 14th, Nick Leblanc and Bird went to Lethbridge, Alberta for the Canadian amateur MMA trials. The event was a consecutive three-day tournament but in Nick’s bracket, he battled through one fight against Brayden Kersey to win in a unanimous decision.

The win qualified Leblanc to fight at the amateur World Championships in Bahrain in the fall.

He will also take on a former training partner at the “WTM Muay Thai Nado #3” Fight Card in Calgary June 2nd, 2018.

Amateur lightweight MMA fighter Nick Leblanc started out in Muay Thai and kickboxing at the age of 9 years old. He started training in MMA at 15 years of age and only started fighting this past year.

Born in Windsor, Ontario, Nick moved to Calgary as a young child and wanted to learn how to defend himself in school. A strong athlete growing up, Nick took to Muay Thai as something he could also use to fuel his energy and help his focus.

He started training at Champion’s Creed in 2012 and hasn’t left. Nick currently teaches kids’ Jiu-Jitsu classes there once a week to give back from all that he’s learned and all the support he’s been given over the years.
