We can't wait for you to meet Pat Mitchell! He is just the nicest guy ever (even though he's a big Oilers fan).
We had a chance to catch up with Pat Mitchell and here is what he had to say:
I am one of the instructors for the Kids' Jiu-Jitsu class.
What I love about jiu-jitsu is that it’s honest. You can say what you want, but when you are in a position in jiu-jitsu, the truth comes out. (Wow, we need a little jiu-jitsu in politics!)
I love lots about the club. I love the fact that it's like a family here, everybody is together, and everybody makes you feel welcome.
It is a safe place. Turns you into a better person. Inside and outside of the club. (Pat is good proof of this.)
It teaches me discipline. And just how to treat people. I come in here and nobody has an ego.
And it gets you thinking, that when you leave the club, you live the same in here as when you’re out in the world.
I like any sort of a choke, I like the D'Arce Choke. I like them because they can be done from any position. I like chokes. (Don't worry, he knows the Heimlich maneuver, too.)
What Coach Brian Bird had to say:
Pat is a super positive, incredibly athletic, good family man. Pat is a leader who leads by example and he instills that in his son as well, as his son PJ is the biggest leader for the kids. Always there to guide and support. Like father, like son. Pat likes to honour his Native Tribe, Neechie. One of the best ways he does this was when he was competing in MMA, his fight song debut was "Electric Pow Wow" by A Tribe Called Red. It is a great song and really showed appreciation of his heritage. Looking forward to him continuing to compete in the future.
