Why Parents Choose Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
It turns “wild energy” into structured energy.
Kids don’t just burn energy — they learn how to control it.
The rules are real (and kids respect them).
Tap means stop. Listening keeps everyone safe. Respect isn’t optional.
Confidence comes from skill — not toughness.
Your child doesn’t need to be the biggest or strongest to do well here.
They practice with a partner, so it actually sticks.
Not “moves in the air.” Real coaching. Real reps. Real progress.
It’s non-striking.
They learn control and self-defense without learning to throw punches.

FAQ
Is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu safe for kids?
Yes. Kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is considered very safe when taught properly — and at Champions Creed in Calgary (NW Silver Springs & SW McLeod Trail), safety is built into how we coach.
BJJ is a non-striking martial art, meaning kids aren’t learning to punch or kick. Instead, they learn control, balance, and technique in a structured, supervised setting. Safety is reinforced through:
- Age-appropriate instruction for kids 7–12
- Clear rules and boundaries (“tap means stop”)
- Controlled partner drills coached closely by instructors
- Clean mats and strong hygiene standards
What makes BJJ different from Karate or Taekwondo?
The biggest difference is the focus.
Many martial arts emphasize striking (punches and kicks). Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu teaches kids how to use technique and control — without relying on hitting.
At Champions Creed in Calgary (Silver Springs & McLeod Trail), kids learn to:
- Stay calm and think under pressure
- Use leverage instead of strength
- Practice with a partner in a controlled, supervised way
- Build confidence through real skill development
Will BJJ help with confidence and behavior?
Many Calgary parents notice improvements in:
- Focus and listening
- Confidence in social situations
- Respect for rules and coaches
- Emotional control when frustrated
Because BJJ is structured and progressive, kids learn that consistency and effort create results — and that confidence often carries into school and home life.
Will BJJ help with bullying?
Kids BJJ helps children feel more capable and less intimidated — and that confidence alone can reduce bullying situations.
In our Calgary kids program, students learn:
- How to stay composed and set boundaries
- Awareness and safer decision-making
- Control-based self-defense skills (without striking)
- Respect and restraint — not “fighting”
What is a typical class like?
A kids class (ages 7–12) is structured, high-energy, and coached closely. Most classes include:
- Warm-up and movement drills
- Technique of the day (taught step-by-step)
- Supervised partner practice
- Controlled training (when appropriate)
- Character development and respectful team culture
What if my child is shy or not athletic?
That’s completely normal.
Our kids program in NW Silver Springs and SW McLeod Trail is beginner-friendly and designed for all activity levels. Shy kids are supported gradually and never pushed into uncomfortable situations. Many parents are surprised how quickly their child starts participating and gaining confidence.
What should my child wear to their first class?
For the first class, comfortable athletic clothing is perfect (T-shirt and shorts/leggings).
During your 7-day trial, we will loan your child a Gi so they can participate fully without needing to buy anything upfront.
Do I need to register before coming?
Yes — we recommend registering in advance so we can reserve your child’s spot and place them in the right age group at the best class time for your Calgary location (NW or SW).
